It’s 2026 and I still find myself loading up old clips from Call of Duty Mobile’s earlier seasons. Season 12 holds a special place in my memory. The Going Dark update landed in November 2020, right when the game had settled into a reliable monthly rhythm under Activision’s new seasonal model. Every season up to that point – Wild West, Radioactive Agent, Forge, Conquest, Hunt, Anniversary – had built momentum, but Season 12 truly raised the stakes.

The battle pass for Going Dark went live even earlier, on October 11th 2020, teasing the noir atmosphere we were about to dive into. As a player, I remember unlocking the premium tiers and being greeted by operators who looked ready for clandestine ops. The legendary Calling Card called Discord became an instant flex. The BP character skins embodied the tactical vibe of nighttime warfare – sleek, dark, and menacing.

My loadouts changed drastically that season thanks to the AGR 556. This new base SMG boasted a blistering fire rate and unexpected mid-range punch. I vividly remember equipping the 5.56 ammo conversion for the first time – suddenly the gun transformed, becoming a laser that could challenge assault rifles. Adding to the kinetic energy was the .50 GS pistol. It hit like a freight train. Low control and high recoil made every shot a gamble, but landing that one-tap headshot felt euphoric.

Season 12 also delivered the Ballistic Shield Operator Skill. 🛡 Nothing beat the thrill of advancing on an entrenched enemy with a shield raised, bullets pinging off harmlessly while my teammates pushed behind me. The tactical shift it brought to objective modes was immense. Suddenly, planting bombs in Search & Destroy or holding Hardpoint became a coordinated shield-wall affair.
In Battle Royale, the Refitter class arrived like a quiet lifesaver. The ability to drop armor plates for the squad turned support players into the backbone of any survival run. I still recall clutching a final circle with a teammate patching me up just before the final duel. That class epitomised the Going Dark theme: subtle, team-focused, and utterly indispensable.
🌃 The centrepiece of the season was the Night mode. Equipping night-vision goggles and stepping into pitch-black versions of Crash, Summit, and Hackney Yard felt like a brand-new game. Enemy footsteps echoed differently. Every corner hid potential death. And when the sun went down, Attack of the Undead – Night turned those same maps into horror arenas. The undead rushing through the darkness while survivors huddled together, counting down the seconds – it was pure adrenaline.

Hackney Yard itself became an instant favorite. Ported from Modern Warfare, this gritty industrial park offered tight sightlines between warehouses, cargo containers, and decrepit buildings. I grinded Team Death Match, Search & Destroy, Domination, and Hardpoint on it relentlessly. Once it joined the ranked rotation, every match on Hackney Yard felt like a high-stakes chess game. The map’s eternal twilight atmosphere in its night variant made me forget I was playing on a mobile device.
Weapon balancing that season reshaped the meta significantly. The DR-H received an extended OTM magazine, trading mobility for sheer firepower. The Kilo Bolt-Action got a Thermite Reload, causing sustained burn damage and shredding Scorestreaks. My beloved Cordite saw improved ADS bullet spread accuracy, while the Razorback gained better recoil stability and mid-range damage. The Fennec became a controllable monster with increased bullet trajectory stability and reduced horizontal recoil. Meanwhile, AK117’s upper-body damage multiplier made it a mid-range beast. Shotguns like KRM 262, BY15 and Echo saw range reductions, and the Shadow Blade along with the Transform Shield were tuned – both saw decreased duration and higher activation costs. Explosives became the hard counter to the Transform Shield, with a single EMP now sufficient to destroy it. And I’ll always remember the Concussion Grenade duration being slightly trimmed, much to the relief of anyone who ever got stunned mid-sprint.
Looking back from 2026, Season 12 was more than just content – it was a feeling. The Going Dark theme, the introduction of night operations, the Hackney Yard map, and the arsenal tweaks created a cohesive experience that still resonates. Whenever I revisit old screenshots, the neon glow of night-vision goggles against the grim map textures reminds me why I fell in love with Call of Duty Mobile. That season taught me to embrace the darkness, trust my squad, and always keep a shield plate handy. If you were there, you know exactly what I mean. 🌙🔫
